Lamb Lollypops are to die for. Get the creamy sauce. The good and wine are great. The chairs are extremely uncomfortable is my only complaint.

My husband is a big fan of this place, finally i got to come and now I can tell why he likes it so much. The lamb lollypops are to die for, everything is fresh, I had a single glass of pinot grio and it was good, usually wine by the glass is not good because the bottles are kept open for too long but here that was not the case, I am a very picky and satisfied customer at 121 Bistro!

Ate there last Friday around 6pm. Service was o k. Slow getting our meal out. I had the shepherd pie and my wife had the meatloaf. Neither were good. The seasoning was overpowering. Artichoke and Spanish appetizer was the highlight of the meal. I have eaten there before and the pizza was good.

FAVORITE place to dine in Lake Charles. As former Californians we give this place 10 stars! Healthy options, incredible flavors, diverse menu, and excellent quality. The filet is magnificent, and you MUST TRY the port reduction sauce- unbelievable. What I love most about the menu is that it does not cater to seafood like most of the places we have been, rather it offers options to those who are in the mood for upscale, comfort, or seafood- and it's most impressive because it's not so big you get lost. The service is usually fantastic, although we prefer to go during lunch or for early dinner. Gorgeous interior, very good taste, and they have incredible olive oil and vinegar from California right on the table. The food is OUTSTANDING!!!! I would also like to add that this is the kind of place that you can dress to the nines for a special occasion, or arrive very casual- this place is whatever you make it- and what is most memorable is the moments you share there- and the food! Oh, and the no reservations thing. We have never had trouble getting a table, and if you really want to go to dinner at peak time (if you truly insist) then plan on showing up early and putting your name in, then go to the bar and enjoy a fabulous cocktail. Get over it! The place is good enough where they can do that.

First time going to this Resturant. Based it off yelp reviews. The food was excellent, prices are moderate. The waiters were very knowledgeable and friendly. Service was a little slow and parking difficult Overall the wife enjoyed it.

This place was excellent tonight! We did arrive at the early hour of 5 for dinner, but we like to take our time and enjoy a nice meal. We stayed for 2.5 hours and never felt rushed to vacate our table. The atmosphere was quietly noisy, as in, there was plenty of noise from conversations, but not in an overwhelming sense. It was elegant, but not stuffy, and you cocktail dress would fit in as well as your nice jeans and top. We brought our 4 year old daughter, and she was not out of place (they do have a kids menu, if needed) but it is not a place I would recommend if your kiddos aren't used to eating out or sitting at a table calmly for extended periods. This is not a meal you want to rush through! Our server, Josh, was excellent, and not only did he have an enthusiasm for the food served at the restaurant (which always lets you know your meal will be good), when he found out we were visiting from Austin, he had an enthusiasm for the local flavor of Southern Louisiana that made us feel really excited to be there. He gave us recommendations (everything he recommended from the menu we highly enjoyed) and was prompt and solicitous about each course of our meal. Drinks were re-filled quickly and unobtrusively, and courses were brought out in a timely manner from when we ordered them. The bar moved very quickly, and our drinks took no time at all to arrive at the table. The Orange Amaretto Margarita was to die for and I splurged and had two! (It was my birthday!) For the food, we were well pleased with each item brought out, and the kitchen obviously had a good handle on what they were creating. We started with the smoked duck appetizer. It was so moist and tender, with excellent seasoning, and the accompaniments paired together perfectly. For the main, our daughter had the shrimp and corn bisque and it was so good we had to stop ourselves from stealing her dinner. My husband had the Calzone with lemon thyme chicken, roasted red peppers, and cremini mushrooms. He enjoyed it to the last bite. I ordered the Lamb Lolipops with the Marsala dipping sauce, and paired it with the Tuscan Chop salad. Everything was well-balanced, perfectly seasoned, and delicious. The lamb was a teeny bit overcooked (we are talking a minute at most, as I like mine a bit pink inside) but still incredibly tender and flavorful. We finished out by sampling the chocolate cake pop, the white chocolate and hazelnut cream bread pudding, and the apple cobbler with ice cream. Splendid! I highly recommend this for your next "special" night out in Lake Charles, or, if you enjoy great food, any night of the week!

The atmosphere lends to the belief of high quality food. For the price, the food could have been much better. There also needs to be an effort into adding foods that cater to health conscious people. Not sure I will return.

More like 3.5 stars. Ate here on a Friday night around 6pm. It was full but no wait yet. The service was a bit slow, the waitress didn't seem to be too familiar with the menu when we asked questions (or placed our orders). The food was good though. I ordered the chicken, with Marsala sauce and spaghetti squash. The chicken was perfectly cooked and still juicy. There was very little Marsala sauce and only one half of a button mushroom. I had to order an extra side of sauce to put on the spaghetti squash. My husband had a couple of margaritas, which were delicious. He also had the pasta with crawfish and cream sauce, he said it was very good. The host staff was friendly upon arrival & departure.

IN LOVE WITH THIS PLACE! We found 121 about 8 months ago and have been back at least once a month since then. First, the drinks are expensive, but they are always perfectly put together. There does tend to be a slight wait at the bar at times, but nothing I haven't experienced at other busy restaurants. Secondly, the bread! OMG, the bread! I could go and just eat the bread and be happy. It's amazing. Parmesan crusted I think, but not real sure. It's fresh out of the oven and just oh, I love it! We have NOT had a meal here we have been disappointed with. We like the tomatoes caprese appetizer, although I could do without the capers. My husband likes them, so we don't ask them to cut them out, I just pick mine out. The steak is always excellent and cooked exactly as we like them. Also, try using the balsamic vinaigrette (the bottle sits on the table) on the steak instead of steak sauce, it's an amazing pairing! The Mona Lisa is my personal favorite. The pizza's are good, but for a wood fire pizza, I'll stick with Boondoggles in Clear Lake,TX. Plus, I think it's a waste of a perfectly good dining experience to order a pizza at 121 anyway! Go for something more delectable than pizza if you're coming here!

For all of you who have driven past Louis DeAngelo's located at 121 South Ryan Street in Lake Charles and are questioning the new sign, never fear. Louis DeAngelos's has simply transitioned to a new name "121 Artisan Bistro". The menu is remaining the same along with some new chef favorites. You will still be able to order your favorite menu items and enjoy a great meal with excellent service. Ben Herrera and Ritchie Gregory are still the owners of this favorite Lake Charles restaurant. You can put your mind at ease. Only the name has changed.....121 Artisan Bistro

My wife and I absolutely love this restaurant! I have never had a bad meal here. Their bread is always hot and fresh. This is one of my wife's favorite places to get a steak. I try to get something different each time I go, so I've tasted a pretty good bit of their menu. I love their fried ravioli. I could eat their marinara sauce with a spoon! The Mona Lisa is a great seafood pasta dish. The ribeye is cooked and seasoned perfectly. You really can't go wrong with any of their calzones; one of my favorite is the Contessa. I was a little worried when they came back with a new name, but like Casey C said, that is the only thing that has changed. You still get great service in a great atmosphere with great food.

This place is excellent! Their pasta dishes are good. I've had the linguini and meatballs and penne pesto with chicken dish. They give you enough portions for two. The pizzas are a good and a decent size. And they also have calzones. They have excellent desserts. The white chocolate bread pudding is awesome and I'm not a big fan of bread pudding. Highly recommend it. They also have traditional tiramisu and good almond cream cake. Hit this place when you get a chance.

Great lunch!! My husband had the filet with crab, it was delicious and perfectly cooked. Came with a choice of 3 sauces, the lemon butter sauce complimented it perfectly. It also was served with a side of asiago potatoes. I had a pizzette, a pizza cooked in the wood burning oven. Lots of toppings to choose from. I've had better wood fire pizza but this was good and the only place in Lake Charles to do it. Service was good, my only complaint was that we sat for a while before getting bread. We'll be back though!

My wife and I's favorite restaurant in Lake Charles (at least for sit down dining). The pizza is excellent, and the salads are reasonably priced and very good. If you are looking for a little nicer type place in Lake Charles without the heavy price, give it a look!

One of the nicest meals I've had in Louisiana. Based mainly on the freshness of the ingredients and preparation which respects the ingredients and doesn't overdo sauces. This is based on the fish of the day, which was perfectly seared on the outside and delicate on the inside. It had a nice light cream sauce, just a little spread on the plate, with some little potato slices and some freshly cooked bacon bits. Side of asparagus was above average, although not quite farmer's market quality. Dinner salad was tasty and the house vinaigrette appropriately light. Dessert was a flourless chocolate cake with cream and fresh fruit. Delicious. I'm sure you can trim the cost by sticking with basics such as pizza. But my entree meal described above, plus one local beer, ran over fifty bucks.

I had the Mona Lisa and my wife had linguini with some really great meatballs. Beautiful restaurant. Great service. We had the flat bread appitizer with spinich and artichokes. That told us two more things must be really good there. .. meatloaf and pizza. We were looking for a little up scale and were satisfied with what we found. We visit Lake Charles once a month and now we have another place to eat to add to our list! Mark was a great waiter and we went with his recommendations.

Well I did go again, but only because it was being paid for by someone else. We were a group of 8 and again the food was good but not as good as the prices. The service was lackluster at best.

The food was absolutely amazing, the service was not nearly as good. We came for a family birthday dinner and gave them notice we would have 10 people (3 of them kids). The server we had was not very attentive and seemed very "put out" about serving us. After our appetizers the time to our entree was quite long. We also waited for our drinks. They were out of crayons and served all the adult patron's dishes saying the kids' food would be out soon. When we asked for something special for the birthday people they couldn't even come up with cupcakes. Very poor experience. I hope the next time will be better.

Always an excellent choice. Try the spinach & artichoke dip, blueberry lemonade martini, and the seafood cannoli or the filet. Perfect for date night or anytime.

The food has always been on point the dozen times I have eaten here - Never been disappointed there. The wine is outrageously overpriced - more of a mark up than most places - and the selection is unimpressive. The service is where this place lacks. The girls up front are not attentive and the service (while friendly) has always been slow. Slow to greet, slow to return with drinks, slow to check back. Step it up.

My wife and I love this place and feel it's well worth the expense. The food is always cooked exactly as ordered and the dishes are unique for the area. I'm quite surprised that they have some of the best steaks around here also. Maybe I'm going to the wrong Italian places, but I don't generally think of amazing steaks at an Italian restaurant. Also, you owe it to yourself to try the Parmesan crusted shrimp... I promise, you won't be disappointed.

We were passing through town and found 121 on Yelp. It's solid Italian food. We had the fried ravioli and a seafood pasta dish with a side Caesar salad. Good wine. Decent martini menu. Comfortable, quiet place with great service.

Good Italian food, that is a closer mix between authentic Italian food and Olive Garden. Service is great. If you haven't been since it burned down, it is different now. All the food taste a little different. (Not a good thing, or a bad thing, just sayin')

Great atmosphere and mood lighting for an evening. Went there last Saturday night for appetizers and drinks..no wait, got the last two spots at the bar. Lots of interesting people there and food was perfect and fast.

This had a great atmosphere, but I'm disappointed in the service and knowledge of the employees that we dealt with. Their filet Mignon was on the high side for quality. The pizza is pretty good, I always like wood burning pizza ovens. Hope this helps....

This is a review of the Deangelos Express on Country Club Road not the newly reopened restaurant on South Ryan. I have not been to the new one yet because after getting a link to their new menu I was stunned to see the increase in their prices. I would normally just try a restaurant for lunch if dinner is out of my price range but I am not yet ready to pay $10 for a hamburger. So, alas, I will stick to reviewing the Express which I have some experience with. I was so delighted when I realized how close my newly purchased home was to Deangelos Express. Although I have not been to the new building, I was a fan of the old place before it burned down. Unfortunately, my experience with the Express version has not been stellar. It is usually good but something is usually wrong with the order. My first time ordering I ordered a pizza and they left off a topping. Since this is basically a take out place now, it was kind of disappointing when I got home with my white pizza and the spinach was not there. Ok, everyone makes mistakes, no big deal. Next time we took a chance and stopped by for a quick lunch. We ordered one of their lunch special flat bread sandwiches (the Philly Cheese steak). We were the only 2 people there and we waited and waited and waited. Finally, the guy behind the counter told us that one of the ovens was giving them trouble but never asked if we wanted a salad or soup or even chips while we waited (and waited). I will say, it was delicious and once again, all was forgiven. The next time I got a craving for this sandwich I ordered it as takeout. I got it home and realized they had forgotten to put in the container of "Au jus" in the bag and the sandwich had large chunks of pepper mill pepper mixed throughout. Not a success. I think at this point, I have given up. Anyone who has ordered here knows, THEY ARE NOT CHEAP and so my incentive to go to their new place and spend as much as I would for a fine dining experience is not much. I am very saddened by this.

I had heard a lot about this restaurant from many clients and decided to stop in for a late lunch one day. The parking lot was packed, but there wasn't a wait. We were sat promptly, but the hostess didnt give us gpflatware or menus. The server didnt get to us for several minutes, so all we could do was sit and twiddle our thumbs. When the server finally got to us, he did bring menus and take a drink order. We ordered the bruschetta appetizer and a gluten free pizza. I asked if avocado was available for the pizza and the server said yes. The bruschetta was great, but the wait time for the pizza was 30minutes, as I said, there was pnt a wait at the door and the restaurant wasn't packed. During our wait, the server never cleared our app plates and didnt refill our drinks. One of the runners filled our drinks once. He didn't ask what we were drinking, just poured. Of course, it was the wrong drink. When we finally got the pizza, they definitely skimped on the toppings. There was hardly any pesto sauce and just a couple of 1/4 inch cubes of brown avocado. To top it all off, when we got the bill, they charged us $5 for 1/2 an avocado! I asked the server about it, of course. He said that they usually on charge $1.95 for each topping, but that the chef told him it was higher for the avocado. So, he rang in whatever the chef told him, instead if coming to check with us to make sure that the additional charge was okay. If I would have known they would charge $5 for 3-4 bits of brown avocado, I would have said no and been happy to do without! I would sincerely like to give this place a second try, but most likely will not. I am rarely in town and wouldn't visit unless someone else in my party really wanted to eat there. It wasn't worth $17pp for some bruschetta, dry pizza, two drinks, and lame service.

The food is great. The service is not. If you don't have time to wait and wait and wait - don't go.

This place is WONDERFUL! As a vegan who just moved back to the area, I find it difficult to identify restaurants who either provide veg-friendly items or are willing to either accommodate my food allergies (dairy) and choices (not eating meat). While 121 Bistro is limited in terms of veg-friendly menu options, the staff and culinary team are exceptional in doing what they can to accommodate! They created a simple pasta dish for me loaded with fresh veggies in an olive oil base that was DELISH... and never once did I feel like I was inconveniencing them. My dining partner is of course an omnivore so he was drawn to the steak (and loved it). I will DEFINITELY be back!

I have been here twice so I feel like it is time I write a review about my experiences. On both occasions the hostess has not been been very attentive or helpful. She tell us the wait won't be long and then you end up having to wait over thirty minutes! The first I went with a large party and the wait was two hours. It was a friends birthday and that is the ONLY reason why I stayed. The second time I was there with a friend and we still ended up waiting thirty minutes, got taken to a dirty table, returned to the waiting area and finally re sat. I also don't understand how they can take names but they don't hand out buzzers. The chef and hostess said they will come get you when they have a table. I found this to be odd because what if you're at the bar; or what if they don't remember what you look like? Service. On both occasions the servers were friendly however service was soo slow. It took forever to place orders. Forever to receive drinks. " the bar suddenly got busy". " the kitchen got slammed". And then when it's time to pay they are quick to bring receipts and then you'll have to wait another 10-15 minutes before the server returns. Food. Great however there she be more health conscious items. The martins and wine are overpriced. Would I return? Smeh...only if I want to spend my entire night sitting in a restaurant and have no plans for anything afterwards.

Hands down best restaurant in lake charles. The food is always amazing. The service is impeccable in the dining area. Some of my favorites are the filet topped with crab. Just cooked perfectly every time I've had it. Beautiful cuts of meat and amazing flavor. Their asparagus is amazing and the asiago potatoes, Omg. That's my favorite meal on earth. Their parmasian shrimp are so flavorful and enough to make a full meal. The flourless chocolate raspberry cake is perfection. So many other amazing things on the menu here. I have not tried anything I didn't like. The bar service could be better and the margaritas aren't the best but the martinis are great

The steaks at this place keep me coming back...the ribeye really can't be beat within a 2-hour drive in any direction...but on a lark I just got a Tuscan chop salad with my meal, and I think it might have actually been better than the steak (and the steak was as good as always). I'm pretty far removed from being a vegetarian, but that salad was worth the entire trip to the restaurant. On the down side, the pancetta/mushroom/spinach thing I usually get with my steak came out crazily over-salted. This place keeps throwing me 9's...still waiting for the 10.

This restaurant has made great food the times that we have visited. The steaks (either in kabob form as an appetizer or as a fillet mignon entree) were perfect. I have a relatively rare food allergy - the waiter and chef were awesome in accommodating this so that I could eat without getting sick!

When I talked to some local Lake Charles residents, many cannot seem to agree which Cajun seafood restaurant is the best, but all of them agree with one thing: Bistro 121 is one of the best foods in town. Of course, as many has also noted, it comes with a price. The first thing I noticed about Bistro 121 was how expensive this restaurant was. It took me a few minutes to realize that the page with all these items that were priced double-digit was only the appetizer page. However, just when I was about to just give a pizza to save my wallet, I found one thing I simply cannot resist: the Mona Lisa - a dish of angel hair pasta with lump crab meat and shrimp in creamy sauce. Although priced at $17, the dish truly delivered and did not disappoint. The ingredients alone were impressive as the amount of crab meat and medium shrimps were generous. As crazy as this sounds though, even without these awesome seafood, I would still think the creamy pasta is still a winner! The creamy sauce's texture and taste really hit the nail. Because I haven't ate in Lake Charles enough, I cannot say if it's one of the town's best, but I can say that it's definitely one of the best Italian I have tasted! That being said, Bistro 121 is too expensive for a regular person like me to visit frequently, but it is certainly a must-try at least once! Maybe once I'm rich enough, I will come by more often to try out more alluring choices on the menu.

Wonderful food. Absolutely miserable service. To start, this place does not take reservations. OK, no big deal, right? So we showed up around dinner time (7) on a Saturday, and were told it would be a wait but that we could spend that time in the bar area. Works for me. We waited at bar for about thirty minutes and enjoyed a cocktail during that time--hot tip, there is not a lot of seating in that area, so you may be stalking someone else's spot while waiting for them to leave so you can have a chair. After our wait, we were seated at our table sans menus or waiter for about fifteen minutes. They were super busy, so I somewhat understand the lack of service, but not even giving us a menu to look at while we waited? Poor choice. Once our waiter arrived, it became apparent that he was very nice, but no good at being a waiter. The tables around us got bread to snack on while we waited, hungry, for our food. Glasses went unfilled, orders got mixed up, etc. We started with crab fritters and had a pizzette and the seafood cannelloni for entrees. As previously mentioned, the food was really good--the fritters were crispy and gorgeously plated, the cannelloni was piping hot, the pizzette crispy, with fresh toppings--but the service on a crowded weekend night is tough to overcome.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
